The 9-Box Tool…What it is, and what it is not – 30 minutes

  1. First, we will discuss topics such as 1) Do we have to use the 9-Box tool? 2) What are variations of the 9-Box? 3) How should the tool be used and what are pitfalls to avoid when using the 9-Box Guide?
  2. What are effective ways to use the 9-Box and what are inappropriate ways to use the 9-Box?
  3. Should we track 9-Box results and should we discuss 9-Box results with employees?

9-Box Calibration Role Play and Discussion – 1 hour

  1. Participants will determine where they would put three mock employees on the 9-Box; we will then calibrate these decisions and discuss how to help managers discuss 9-Box decisions, and when to use the 9-Box (before or after discussing vacancy risk, strengths, development actions)?
  2. How do we incorporate our Corporate Values into 9-Box decisions?

Question and Answer Period – 30 Minutes

  1. Participants can submit questions prior to the webinar about 9-Box challenges and issues that they would like to discuss in the webinar.
